A little planning.
A lot less guesswork.
Free home improvement calculators that turn your measurements into a practical material list. From the first coat of paint to the last deck board.
What are you working on?
Eight practical collections, from a single room refresh to an outdoor material list.
Paint & Wallpaper
Work out how much paint, primer, wallpaper or decorative finish your room needs. Measure walls and openings, account for coats and pattern repeats, and compare full cans or rolls before ordering. Separate wall, ceiling and trim quantities so each product uses its own coverage assumptions.
11 calculatorsFlooring & Tile
Turn floor dimensions into an order for planks, carpet or tile, then plan the materials underneath and between them. Compare box rounding, installation layouts, border cuts, grout joints and product yields. Keep the measured floor area separate from purchased coverage and installation labor.
12 calculatorsWalls & Insulation
Estimate sheet goods, wall coverings, ceiling systems and insulation using the quantity model that fits the product. Compare grids, exposed board coverage, cavity areas or installed depth. Check actual package specifications and keep material quantities separate from acoustic, thermal and structural performance requirements.
11 calculatorsConcrete & Masonry
Calculate placed concrete volumes, bag quantities, masonry units and paving layers from your own project dimensions. Compare shapes, openings, product yields and purchase allowances. Plan separate quantities for reinforcement, mortar or bedding materials while leaving construction design and site requirements to the appropriate project specification.
13 calculatorsGarden & Landscape
Measure garden beds, lawn areas and outdoor layers before comparing bulk deliveries with bagged materials. Estimate soil, compost, mulch, gravel and other landscaping supplies using the correct depth, density and package size. See how an adjusted layer or a different product changes your shopping list.
13 calculatorsRoofing & Exterior
Plan exterior material quantities using roof geometry, cladding coverage, gutter runs and coating requirements. Convert measured areas into suitable purchasing units, then account for overlaps, waste and package sizes. These tools support material takeoffs and budgets while keeping installation requirements and structural decisions separate.
7 calculatorsWood, Deck & Fence
Build a practical lumber list for decks, fences, wall trim and workshop projects. Use actual board dimensions, desired gaps, stock lengths and cutting allowances to compare layouts. Estimate related fasteners and finishes, and examine what offcut reuse or whole-stock rounding does to the order.
21 calculatorsProject Planning
Bring material measurements, purchasing allowances, deliveries and labor assumptions into a clearer project plan. Compare budgets and scenarios, calculate quantities in useful units and explore dependencies in a work schedule. All price and productivity inputs remain under your control rather than relying on an unexplained market average.
12 calculatorsStart with the numbers.
Estimate coverage, understand allowances and round up to the packs you can actually buy.
Paint Calculator
Work out how much paint to buy before opening a tin. This room paint calculator separates the four walls from the ceiling, deducts the actual area of openings, and applies your chosen number of coats to both surfaces. Enter the coverage printed on your paint label rather than relying on a universal coverage claim.
Paint & WallpaperWallpaper Roll Calculator
Wallpaper is purchased by the roll but installed in full-height strips. Dividing wall area by the area printed on a roll can therefore underestimate what to order. This calculator first finds how many strips cover your combined wall run, rounds each drop to the selected pattern repeat, and checks how many complete drops fit on a roll.
Paint & WallpaperFlooring Material Calculator
Use this flooring material calculator when the supplier sells flooring by box coverage. Start with the measured floor dimensions, subtract permanent areas that will not receive flooring, then add a cutting allowance appropriate to your layout. The tool rounds the adjusted area up to whole boxes and shows the extra coverage created by that rounding.
Flooring & TileTile Quantity Calculator
Tile dimensions and the spaces between tiles both affect how many pieces cover a surface. This quantity estimator treats each tile plus one grout joint as a repeating module, applies a cutting and breakage allowance, and rounds the final order to the box size.
Flooring & TileConcrete Calculator
A concrete order starts with the shape of the space being filled. This calculator handles rectangular pads, solid round pads and hollow cylinders, so a patio and a circular equipment base do not have to be approximated in the same way.
Concrete & MasonryBoard and Batten Calculator
A board and batten wall looks balanced when the spaces between the vertical boards are equal. This layout calculator works from the finished wall width, actual batten face width, and the largest clear gap you want. It places a batten at both ends, finds the smallest number of equal bays that meets your gap target, and reports the material length.

How Much Paint for a Room with Doors, Windows, and Two Coats?
A useful room paint estimate begins with the surfaces receiving the same product. Floor area does not tell you wall area, and a gallon of wall paint cannot automatically stand in for a gallon of ceiling paint or primer. Build the estimate as a small schedule: wall finish, ceiling finish, trim finish, and primer.

Wallpaper ordering becomes much clearer when you stop treating a roll as a bag of interchangeable square feet. The useful pieces are full-height strips, and the number of strips on a roll depends on wall height, trimming, and pattern matching.

Flooring estimates have three different quantities: the installed area, the material target after cutting allowance, and the actual boxed order. Those numbers can differ even in a simple room. Laminate and vinyl products also have different plank dimensions and installation rules, so one universal box count is not useful.
